Senator Chris Murphy has landed in the Middle East and is already treating the trip like a personal achievement unlocked: the lone Democrat brave enough to show up, tour the rubble, and sit down with the usual intermediaries who specialize in “ending” conflicts by pressuring the United States to stop winning them.
His first evening in Qatar apparently featured a long dinner with a diplomat running U.S.-Iran shuttle talks, complete with the familiar advice that Washington should chase another deal instead of more strikes. For a senator whose foreign-policy brand has long mixed solemn lectures with selective outrage, his self-congratulatory arrival video lands less like statesmanship and more like a campaign ad filmed against someone else’s war.
Not to mention, he's lying.
