Nothing says “working-class champion” quite like a guy named Abdulrahman Mohamed El-Sayed casually suggesting that Vice President JD Vance’s late Appalachian grandfather would have recoiled in horror at the sight of his Indian-American wife.
El-Sayed decided the best way to clap back at Vance’s criticism of his past Sharia-law commentary was to imply that white Midwestern grandparents are, by default, bigots. Because of course they are.
ESPECIALLY IN MICHIGAN, right?
In El-Sayed’s pathetic, sad worldview, any older white guy who once welded for a living must have spent his free time polishing his Klan robe.
Never mind that Vance has repeatedly written about how his Mamaw and Papaw raised him with tough love and zero tolerance for the kind of racial grievance politics that now pass for sophistication on the left. Never mind that Usha Vance, a Yale Law grad and practicing Hindu, has been embraced by the very family El-Sayed is busy smearing from afar.
This is the same Abdulrahman Mohamed El-Sayed who previously fixated on the skin tone of the Vance children, framing their father’s politics as some kind of personal betrayal of his own “brown kids.” Projection much?
Texas Rep. Brandon Gill wasn’t having it, and neither should anyone with a functioning memory of actual Midwestern grandparents. Those folks tended to judge people by whether they showed up for work and kept their word — not by the melanin content of their future daughter-in-law.

El-Sayed’s cheap shot reveals far more about his own racial obsessions than it does about Papaw. Michigan voters might want to ask themselves if this is the “public servant” they want representing them: a guy who can’t resist turning every political disagreement into a lecture about how white people are the problem.
