No, James Talarico: Galatians 3:28 Doesn’t Mean God is Nonbinary

This likely won't be the last VIP article I do while James Talarico is running for Senator of Texas. He gets the Bible wrong so often and as a Christian, I feel the compulsion to correct it.

Now, I don't have a fancy degree from a Seminary like Talarico, but I did go to Bible College and I have a Minor in Biblical Studies. I'll submit I still know way more than Talarico.

First of all, this Scripture has nothing at all to do with the deity of God or the triune. Let's look at the Scriptures around the one Talarico points out. It's always best to read around when someone is trying to twist Scripture to fit their politics.

21-22 If such is the case, is the law, then, an anti-promise, a negation of God’s will for us? Not at all. Its purpose was to make obvious to everyone that we are, in ourselves, out of right relationship with God, and therefore to show us the futility of devising some religious system for getting by our own efforts what we can only get by waiting in faith for God to complete his promise. For if any kind of rule-keeping had power to create life in us, we would certainly have gotten it by this time.

23-24 Until the time when we were mature enough to respond freely in faith to the living God, we were carefully surrounded and protected by the Mosaic law. The law was like those Greek tutors, with which you are familiar, who escort children to school and protect them from danger or distraction, making sure the children will really get to the place they set out for.

25-27 But now you have arrived at your destination: By faith in Christ you are in direct relationship with God. Your baptism in Christ was not just washing you up for a fresh start. It also involved dressing you in an adult faith wardrobe—Christ’s life, the fulfillment of God’s original promise.

28-29 In Christ’s family there can be no division into Jew and non-Jew, slave and free, male and female. Among us you are all equal. That is, we are all in a common relationship with Jesus Christ. Also, since you are Christ’s family, then you are Abraham’s famous “descendant,” heirs according to the covenant promises.

I used The Message translation because it’s straightforward and easy to understand. The Scripture (Galatians 3:28) is crystal clear: in Christ, we all now have direct access to God. No more animal sacrifices, no more needing priests or intermediaries — every believer can have a personal relationship with Jesus.

It means Jesus accepts everyone equally: male or female, Jew or Gentile, slave or free, rich or poor. Christ has no caste system. That’s the entire point of the verse.

This passage has nothing to do with the gender of God or Jesus. Jesus is explicitly a man, and Scripture repeatedly calls God our “Father.” The Bible is not ambiguous on this. The verse is about equal access and value in Christ — not about erasing or redefining God’s revealed nature.

If he keeps misrepresenting the Bible and calling himself a Preacher, he and the Apostle Paul may not end up in the same place when all is said and done.

He is the worst kind of 'Preacher'.
