Sometimes I wonder if Democrats/Leftists are really just dumb or maybe just believe everything they read on the internet and don't do any research. Maybe they don't have any friends and family members who are conservatives and can explain what Republicans ACTUALLY believe to them. Perhaps, and I'm beginning to believe this is the case, they are just dishonest liars. Whatever the case, the gold medal win of Alysa Liu has them coming out of the woodwork (like roaches) to claim the GOP is hypocritical to praise her as she is an immigrant. Sigh.

Listen, Deva. take a seat and learn. Alysa's father was a TRUE refugee. He was fleeing real political persecution in China. The family came to America legally and assimilated. Republicans have no problem with that kind of immigration. In fact, conservatives, as a whole, support legal immigration. Heck, our President and Vice-President are married to immigrants (Usha was born in California, but her parents are immigrants). It's not as if conservatives have some reflexive hate for foreigners. Yes, Republicans want strong parameters and we don't believe every single person should be allowed in the country. Alysa Liu and her family are just the kind of immigrants most Americans would welcome.
Based on the replies, Republicans are apparently totally for legal immigration and asylum for refugees, and only against illegal immigration. Which, great, I agree with that too.

That's the reality. MAGA and conservatives want immigration that benefits America, not the other way around. Republicans don't want people who will need to live on welfare for years or who cannot contribute to the workforce.

America is not a third world country and people from third world countries will often have real difficulties assimilating to our systems and norms. That's an important point to keep in mind when considering extending coveted American citizenship to outsiders.
