Obama eyes 'shot across the bow'; Critics fire off decisive mockery

Obama is totally prepared to take decisive action against Syria. Never mind that multiple intel sources say there’s “no smoking gun” linking President Bashar Assad to a deadly gas attack.

So what’s the “clear and decisive” action?

Obama signaled in a PBS interview he is planning a “Cut it out! Serious You Guys, last warning for realsies!” approach to Syria.

Citing Americans’ concern over getting involved in another long conflict like the Iraq War, Obama said the U.S. can instead choose “limited, tailored approaches” to military involvement in Syria.

“If we are saying in a clear and decisive but very limited way, we send a shot across the bow saying, ‘stop doing this,’ that can have a positive impact on our national security over the long term,” Obama said.

At Ace of Spades HQ, John Ekdahl notes that the president is “evolving” again. Either that, or Syria has evolved and now responds well to “that kind of bluster.” Charles Krauthammer called Obama’s “shot across the bow” plan a way to assuage the conscience of a president … without achieving anything.”
