Just to update you on the death of al-Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahiri in Afghanistan we told you about last night. . .
On Saturday, at my direction, the United States successfully conducted an airstrike in Kabul, Afghanistan that killed the emir of al-Qa’ida: Ayman al-Zawahiri.
Justice has been delivered.

. . .it appears the home he was staying in was linked to New York Times op-ed writer Sirajuddin Haqqani at the time of the drone strike:
Can't believe Ayman Al-Zawahiri was staying at the home of New York Times contributor Sirajuddin Haqqani.

And, no, we’re not joking. Here’s the op-ed Haqqani wrote back on February 20, 2020, titled, “What we, the Taliban, Want”:
You think I'm joking, huh? Good joke. Everybody laugh. Roll on snare drum. Curtains. pic.twitter.com/8wgWY1wtO0

But get this! The New York Times stealth-edited this detail from the original write-up with no editor’s note:
>@NYTimes story on Ayman al-Zawahri originally said "According to one American analyst, the house that was struck was owned by a top aide to Sirajuddin Haqqani, a senior official in the Taliban government." It was removed w/o note.https://t.co/YCU8mAc9WKhttps://t.co/rzecBnvG89 pic.twitter.com/B92xXyj1vi

That’s too big a deal to just leave unexplained:
Only The New York Times would stealth edit something of this magnitude. https://t.co/hW0llcW1Fx

So, the stealth edit confirms it, right?
Frankly, that kinda confirms it for me. Easy to imagine they were asked to pull that for strategic reasons.

And we await reports of civilian casualties:
I’m hearing 11 dead in US drone attack – two died of injuries at the NDS Hospital in Kabul & 9 killed outright. Two members of Sirajuddin Haqqani's family were among those killed which is now fuelling rumours this was also an attack on Sirajuddin Haqqani. Few tears will be 1/2

Few tears will be shed over the demise of Zawahiri but, as usual, these strikes are not surgical nor is it a satisfactory method of dispensing justice. 9/11 families would have got more closure in an open, transparent trial. Waiting for confirmation of exact death toll.
