AFT union President Randi Weingarten keeps saying over and over again that 90% of teachers in her union are vaccinated. But is this true?
Thank you @noamscheiber – we are pro vaccine & @AFTunion is doing everything we can to get kids #backtoschool & keep everyone safe. Missing in this debate is teachers have stepped up,they have a 90% vax rate. We know #delta is a danger & thinking thru what else to do. https://t.co/iSfCZz6hRf

We ask because NYC DOE Chancellor Meisha Porter just said this morning that only 60% of city teachers are vaccinated:
Just now on @NY1: @DOEChancellor says 60% of teachers in @NYCSchools are vaccinated and she is optimistic that number will keep going up. @AnnikaPergament @RoccoNY1

Most teachers in NYC are representing by the UFT union, and its president, Michael Mulgrew said the numbers “is actually closer to 70 or even 80 percent since city figures don’t account for teachers who got their shots outside of NYC”:
Fwiw, Mulgrew told me yesterday he believes this number is actually closer to 70 or even 80 percent, since city figures don’t account for teachers who got their shots outside of NYC https://t.co/4JET0vCget

You know, maybe it would be helpful if Weingarten and Mulgrew got together and told us THE ACTUAL NUMBER instead of plotting ways to keep schools closed:
Applause to @UFT prez Mulgrew, @MarkTreyger718, and @Dromm25 for proposing the limiting of students allowed in NYC classrooms as COVID looms. This is what educators and students need.https://t.co/LgQW5b5UIx

Because, as things are going, it appears that these two union heads aren’t real keen on keeping schools open in the fall for in-person education:
everything Mulgrew is saying on the town hall is what he *wants* to happen, not necessarily what's going to happen. We just do not know at this point what the quarantining or testing rules will be for the fall – because the city is still negotiating with the UFT about it! https://t.co/vbxwrK7PGd
