For the can’t-make-this-up file, Washington D.C. lawmakers unanimously approved a bill that would start a pilot program to pay residents not to commit crimes.
This initial proposal is for “up to 200 people per year” who have been identified as “at risk for committing a crime” to participate in behavioral therapy of some sort. And if at the end of the therapy they haven’t committed a crime, they get paid an as of yet unidentified amount.

A similar program in Richmond, California pays people $9000 a year to not commit crimes, but that’s like comparing apples and oranges:

Of course taxpayers would pay. Duh!
We’ve really lost our way as a country, haven’t we?

We pay people not to work, guess it stands to reason politicians would pay them not to commit crime. https://t.co/to1KQ1nxmi

What happens when they decide to strike? And demand more money? DC should be dissolved https://t.co/1r4fDDT2lV
