I'll kick this story off with a fast review of just a couple of the things President Trump being either for or against has caused the Democrats to automatically take the other side of the same issues.
--The formerly "no one is above the law" Dems have come out against deporting illegal aliens and enforcing immigration laws (heck, they're even delivering mail to illegals held in detention centers).
--Democrats are basically defending violent crime in the cities they run all because Trump wants to do something about it (and has done something about it in Washington, DC).

--Trump adding cartels to the list of designated foreign terrorist organizations had some lefties coming out and showing concern for the wellbeing of drug traffickers:

They do have their "priorities."
Now there's a rumor going around that could put the Democrats in another awkward position, and hey, maybe that's what it's intended to do:

Will the Trump administration try that? There certainly is a mental health crisis (while Dems keep blaming the guns). We'll see where it does or doesn't go, but it certainly would be interesting to see where the Democrats would take it in opposition. Seeing Chuck Schumer and Nancy Pelosi wearing "from my cold dead hands" shirts with Charlton Heston's picture on them would be a nice touch.
