Artemis 1 launch scrubbed but another Kamala Harris pearl of space wisdom blasted off on time

The gems from Vice President Kamala Harris just keep on coming. Harris, who might be the greatest political orator of our time if you don’t count, well, just about everybody else, started this month in fine form:

“While we send our prayers, and our love, we also, with each day, renew our commitment to the urgency of now and the ability that we have collectively, all of us in it together, to do something about it.”

That came after another pearl of VP wisdom that was delivered last month:

“We are expanding access to transportation. You need to get to go and need to be able to get where you need to go to do the work and get home.”

The Veep has now followed up on those doozies with some comments about the Artemis program. But first, an Artemis 1 launch was planned for this morning but had to be scrubbed:

An engine cooling issue on NASA’s giant new rocket for deep-space exploration forced the agency to call off the booster’s much-anticipated launch debut early Monday (Aug. 29).

NASA had mostly fueled its first Space Launch System (SLS) megarocket to launch the Artemis 1 moon mission on Monday when launch controllers were unable to chill one of the four main engines to the temperatures needed to handle its super-cold propellant. The issue stalled plans to launch the SLS rocket and its uncrewed Orion spacecraft on an ambitious 42-day test flight around the moon. Liftoff was scheduled for 8:33 a.m. EDT (1233 GMT).

Chilling the SLS rocket’s engines before flowing cryogenic liquid hydrogen and liquid oxygen through them is a required step before the rocket can launch, NASA officials said. While three of the engines passed that test, Engine No. 3 did not, despite troubleshooting efforts.

Kamala Harris was on the scene. The launch might have been scrubbed, but fortunately for humanity Harris’ remarks on what the program is all about were not canceled:

She never disappoints!

I’m not a biologist so I can’t answer that.

A certain VP might be about to receive a strongly-worded reminder that there are 50-something genders — maybe more.

I’ll see you next time for another edition of “Veep Thoughts”!
