Last night on his MSNBC program, Lawrence O’Donnell retracted a claim made the day before that of course went viral among the Resistance base. O’Donnell’s retraction was accompanied by a kinda-sorta apology. CNN’s Oliver Darcy later said that O’Donnell’s actions damage the reputation of the media:

Examples? You got ’em!
For instance, Manu Raju claimed that two sources, both of whom allegedly lied to him about same date on the same email, told him that Donald Trump Jr. was offered encryption codes to look at hacked DNC emails. Turned out to be untrue.

CNN had to retract a story that claimed Scaramucci was under investigation by Congress for his alleged ties to Russia.

A gaggle of CNN reporters claimed that Comey would contradict President Trump’s claim that he was not under investigation. It didn't happen. It was never even really corrected.

These weren't mistakes. Everyone makes mistakes. The central claim of those three stories — and there were a whole bunch more — were completely wrong. CNN never explained why.
