'Capt. Renault clearly misspoke': Mock-tastic quotes, NYT-style

An editorial in the New York Times this weekend tried to provide ridiculous cover for President Obama’s repeated promise of “if you like your plan you can keep it,” which has turned out to be a huge lie. The Times claimed Obama merely “misspoke.”

We doubt the government, or the New York Times editorial board for that matter, would be as accepting of a similar phrasing from others:

That said, maybe the New York Times editorial board simply discovered that a good way to generate buzz is though making patently ridiculous defenses of President Obama’s lies.
