Before and shortly after taking office, President Biden promised that when there was an opening on the Supreme Court he would nominate a black woman to fill a vacant seat. Biden’s been making that pledge since before the 2020 election:
The president ended up doing just that, and now as the confirmation hearing is taking place, Sen. Cory Booker is saying that Biden’s nominee “happens to be black.” Booker’s attempt to compliment Ketanji Brown Jackson came out awkwardly:
Senator Cory Booker: "President Biden nominated someone…who is extraordinarily talented, and who also happens to be a black woman—something we've never seen before." pic.twitter.com/tQbnlrkFZP

There are multiple levels of “fail” in that statement.
When you know what he meant, but still . . . https://t.co/lKxo9KWffo

So Corey had never seen a qualified black woman before?

Should have had a staffer review the last part.

Yeah, that would have been a good idea. Booker should have asked for a do-over on that one.
We've never seen an extraordinarily talented black woman before???

@CoryBooker says, “…who also happens to be a black woman…” Happens to be? Biden literally said that color and gender were most important when choosing this nominee. So please spare us with this, happens to be. #spartacusreturns #iamspartacus https://t.co/gJXIBlBOC4

There’s going to be a whole lot of “alternate reality” going on amongst the Democrats during these hearings.
