The long strange story of New York Representative Jamaal Bowman and his fire alarm escapades continues. Last we heard of the matter the Capitol police had opened an investigation into what exactly Bowman was doing pulling a fire alarm in the Cannon building at the time when the House Democratic caucus was trying to delay a vote being taken on the 45 day continuing resolution that then House Speaker Kevin McCarthy was trying to push through. Now word has come down that the Capitol police have finished their investigation... and are recommending misdemeanor charges against the congressman.
BREAKING: Rep Jamaal Bowman has been criminally charged with one misdemeanor count of falsely pulling a fire alarm for the September 30th incident in the Cannon Office Building, according to court documents, @dnlbrns & I report.

Although only a misdemeanor the charge still comes with a maximum charge of jail time... although we somehow doubt that Jamaal Bowman will be seeing the inside of a jail cell. Those sorts of rules are for the hoi polloi not for those in the ruling class, after all.
Per @dnlbrns, the charge against Rep Bowman carries a maximum penalty of six months in jail. He has been ordered to appear in DC Superior Court tomorrow morning at 9:30am for his arraignment.

Still, having to show up in court on misdemeanor charges and be finger printed for such an insanely stupid blunder (if blunder it was) can't look good come reelection time next year. But given that Bowman's district is a highly liberal one it might help him as well, who knows?
Wisconsin Rep. Bryan Steil is calling for Bowman's case to be looked at by the House Ethics Committee, although who knows if that will come to anything even if they do. We won't hold our breath.
New stmt from Committee on House Administration Chairman Steil (R-WI): "Rep. Bowman's excuse does not pass the sniff test...I want to thank U.S. Capitol Police for their swift attention to this incident, and encourage the Ethics Committee to further pursue this matter." pic.twitter.com/tF5myMFqYL

Not much sympathy for Rep. Bowman is to be found from elsewhere either.
Rep Jamaal Bowman needs to be expelled from Congress.

No obstruction of an official proceeding felony?

Couldn't it have been a little steeper? Didn't he "interfere" with an official procedure?

Well, I was wrong in thinking that Bowman got a break. Good to see him get charged for this.

It's always nice to see people in office be held to a legal standard, even if we can all agree that that legal standard is far below any standard that would be imposed on any of us.
