I mentioned in an earlier post that I had a third post in the queue from Variety, which, like TMZ, has decided it's now a political outlet. First, we had Variety getting Dan Rather's take on the state of CBS News, and then its celebration of President Donald Trump's electoral defeat in Brazil — we guess elections in Brazil are entertainment news if they can somehow be spun as a loss for Trump.
Our third selection is pretty standard — a "report" on an alleged comedy bit. The headline: "John Oliver Issues Urgent Warning Ahead of the Midterms About the Republican Party's Nazi Ties." Oh, so wait, this wasn't a comedy bit … it was an urgent warning. No wonder Variety thought it needed to pass along the warning about the GOP's Nazi ties, which is something we've never heard about before.
John Oliver: “It does feel that the Republican Party has been getting way too comfortable with some, at best, Nazi-adjacent sh*t.” “Nazis getting power doesn’t historically bode well for anyone, including, for what it’s worth, Nazis, who didn’t exactly have the best 1945.” https://t.co/Z5fYen1N4X

"Nazi-adjacent s**t." Like what? That ad the GOP put out about Israel being responsible for the high price of eggs? Oh, wait, that was Cenk Uygur. Even Democrat Haley Stevens came out criticizing it. Anyway, let's hear what important thing Oliver has to say. Marlow Stern reports:
The HBO host then brought up how Elon Musk delivered what very much appeared to be a Nazi salute to Trump supporters at a rally following his election in 2025.
“Everything about that screams, ‘Nazi!’” said Oliver, adding, “Well, almost everything. To be fair to the Nazis, unlike Elon, they at least looked sharp in their suits.”
…
Oliver argued that Israel’s war in Gaza has led “some on the far-right to seize on this moment and elevate antisemitic conspiracy theories,” including Tucker Carlson’s warm podcast interview with the Hitler-worshipping neo-Nazi Fuentes. The Heritage Foundation president Kevin Roberts defended Carlson’s chummy interview with Fuentes and said the podcaster was under attack from “globalist forces,” later walking back the defense by claiming that he, the leader of the top conservative think tank, doesn’t pay attention to the news.
Ah yes, Nick Fuentes and Tucker Carlson … the first two people we think of when we think of the contemporary GOP.
@Variety This argument worked amazingly to get Trump elected again in 2024 but keep it up

@Variety Calling Republicans Nazis now? Surely this will work!
— Hugh Retard (@HughRetard) October 26, 2026
@Variety This POS John Oliver? And are you people really this retarded? Democrats have a jihadist antisemite caucus and an anti Israel litmus test. They’re the Nazis.

@Variety @grok if I were cryogenically frozen and woke up 100 years in the future, would I still be hearing people compare everything they dislike to the Nazis?
— Frog Enjoyer (@AFrogEnjoyer) October 26, 2026
Remember when Variety did an article on John Oliver calling out all of the mainstream Democrats campaigning for the guy with the literal SS tattoo on his chest? Yeah, I don't either.
@Variety LOL imagine being so confident in your ignorance you actually post this 😂
— Marie (@MissMariebee) October 26, 2026
@Variety Ask John Oliver how he feels about Israel and Zionists. I bet he has a lot more in common than he wants to advertise in the moment.
— Author Adam Bray (@authoradambray) October 26, 2026
@Variety A great actor once said, "Never go full retard." Neither Variety nor John Oliver took that advice.
— Brandt Anderson (@Brandty_Boy) October 26, 2026
@Variety Eisenhower, Reagan, Both Bushes, Bob Dole, and Mitt Romney were all called Nazis in their day. This reductive onanism does little to win an argument; it's a free-floating ad hominem that tries to hide that their party is being captured by nationally socialist antisemites.

@Variety I mean, this is such a tired comparison people that keep saying this either don’t actually know the history of the Nazis or they are retarded and with John Oliver I’m not sure which it is. He’s a provocateur of the left, but I don’t think he’s that bright.
— Rumblefish (@RumblefishAZ) October 26, 2026
@Variety This argument would probably hold a lot more weight if we didn't have lefties marching in support of Hamas and attacking synagogues, or if we hadn't learned that the SPLC was funding white supremacy groups.
— Senator Tim Whatley (no anti-dentites, please) (@senator_tim) October 26, 2026
@Variety Wow, nobody has ever made that comparison before.
— Sneed (@Sneed238) October 26, 2026
They thought Mitt Romney was a Nazi … now he's what they consider a "good" Republican.
So edgy.
