I see that one of the new bogeymen in America is the data center. I've seen polls saying that 70 percent of Americans don't want a data center constructed near them. On Tuesday, People Magazine posted yet again its story about how a data center in Georgia was gulping down 30 million gallons of water, lowering water pressure for nearby residents.
Georgia Residents Didn't Know Why Their Water Pressure Was Low. A Data Center Was Gulping 30M Gallons https://t.co/1yqzCCbkDt

In case it's not visible above, People got hit with a Community Note:
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
False. Fayette County stated this did not affect residential water pressure; operational usage is less than 1% of capacity. The 30M gallons was used over the course of a year in construction phase due to a county metering error. QTS paid full retroactive charges.
This entire story has been debunked from every angle since the original article was published over a week ago, so of course People magazine is like “let’s just re-publish all the false stuff!” https://t.co/2Re9krpqxV

Fifteen years ago this was “fracking caused their tap water to catch fire!” and then we learned the methane had a natural origin and had been there long before any natural gas drilling.

Remember Gasland was nominated for an *Academy Award* and the iconic flaming water scene was determined to be unrelated to fracking.

Someone with a banjo is gonna make Dataland, I just know it.
That someone might just be Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. It was show-and-tell day for her, and she brought in a jar of drinking water from near that Georgia data center.
JUST IN: AOC holds up a jar of untreated runoff water.

She says this is what drinking water in Morgan County, Georgia looks like now thanks to a data center.
The water is from a nearby well. It's unclear who needs more treatment: AOC or this water.pic.twitter.com/tDKSNIhr7x
Thanks to Acyn for bringing that video to my attention. He must have thought it was pure gold.
I live in fucking Morgan county Georgia and this is absolutely horse shit

She doesn’t represent Morgan County, Georgia.

It’s Gasland all over again. I’m so sick of these people.
— Linda Quinn (@ljquinn) May 21, 2026
Trump should come out against Data Centers
— 5_th_November (@freedomNov5) May 21, 2026
This will ensure AOC and other democrats will support Data Centers
She’s reading from a script. D actress sooo badly wanting a Erin Brockovich moment
— Jerod C (@JerodC1) May 21, 2026
Grandstanding again. Dress up and cry over the jar of water? Georgia is a long way from her district.
— smellenwood_dude (@ewoodgolf) May 21, 2026
And we have her word that the water is from where she says it is. Yeah right.
— ppenguin95 (@ppenguin95) May 21, 2026
Someone who probably wants AOC to be elected president in 2028 probably sent her a jar of well water from Georgia via FedEx with that story.
Who in Georgia is sending a NY congresswoman samples of their water?
— Certified! unverfied. (@Hogan62G) May 21, 2026
Do those samples have labelling confirming what they are and where they're from?
This is really fishy.
That did not come from a functioning water treatment plant.
— Tom Morgan (@TomMorgan68) May 21, 2026
Thinks she's Erin Brockovich
— AAE (@AAC0519) May 21, 2026
Whether or not data centers are a good thing or not is debatable, but this is not that debate. AOC needs to go back to bartending.
