Fingers on the pulse: The theme of this year's Met Gala is 'gilded glamour'

In March, when President Joe Biden was in Brussels for the NATO summit, he was asked by a reporter about food shortages. “It’s going to be real,” he said. A month later, Jen Psaki said that the Biden administration was not expecting a food shortage here at home, so that was a relief. Meanwhile, while people struggle to afford gas to get to work, the administration is making noises about forgiving student loans.

Last year, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez attended the Met Gala wearing a “Tax the Rich” dress, the train of which was carried by the help, who were all wearing masks while the celebrities were not. Facing a backlash, she said she deserved respect for having “punctured the 4th wall of excess and spectacle.” We’re not sure if she’s going again this year, but the theme sounds right up her alley: “Gilded glamour.”

It’s for a good cause, though; the AP reports that last year the evening earned more than a whopping $16.4 million for the Met’s Costume Institute.
