Every progressive pundit on cable news (which means every single one on CNN and MSNBC) is trying to explain that Glenn Youngkin’s victory over Terry McAuliffe in Virginia was the result of racism: there was the racist dog-whistle of critical race theory, which isn’t real, and Youngkin’s endorsement by Donald Trump. It was those white suburban parents in all their whiteness who handed a defeat to McAuliffe.
Republicans have been pointing out that they elected a black woman to serve as their lieutenant governor, but MSNBC’s Mehdia Hassan attributes that to that mainstay of socially acceptable white supremacy: “I’m not racist, I have black friends.” So stop bringing up Winsome Sears as if her victory means anything. (As we pointed out earlier, USA Today left her out of their coverage of POC who won seats.)
The argument that white supremacy & racial resentment couldn't have helped power Youngkin to victory in VA because the Republicans elected a black lieutenant governor – Winsome Sears – is as convincing as saying Trump isn't a racist because he made Ben Carson his HUD secretary.

The thing about critical race theory is that the problem is “whiteness,” not necessarily white people. It’s just that white people benefit most from a culture built upon whiteness, and sometimes a person of color like Sears or Ben Carson gets a boost.
Look, he even posted a Wikipedia link as further proof.

And yet if she had lost, you would find that conclusive evidence of racism in voters.

Except one is an appointment and one is 1.6 million Virginians casting votes of their own choice. But nice try. Just kidding, it was a dumb try. https://t.co/I9PJUXmfhx

The lieutenant governor in Virginia is elected by the people, not appointed. Something you would know if you actually cared about the issue and not interested in beating a dead horse, you absolute buffoon. https://t.co/KqgwGHMVNt

So, what would be your definition of white supremacy if it results in electing a black lieutenant governor?
— TheSpagnostic (@spagnositic) November 3, 2021
Youngkin’s opponent sought and obtained the endorsement of the governor who dressed in black face. Also white supremacists and racists oppose minorities being elected to higher office, they don’t vote for them. You’re playing word games. https://t.co/AZ8wkOkZOv
— Eli Lake (@EliLake) November 3, 2021
He also sought and obtained a campaign appearance by a man who said “you ain’t black” if you don’t vote for him.
Here are your white supremacists that propelled Youngkin to victory@mehdirhasan https://t.co/sQhCFyYHbZ pic.twitter.com/gO34w6T4mE

That's not the argument. That's just the icing on the cake.
The argument is that the idea racial resentment drove the Youngkin victory is supremely idiotic on its face https://t.co/LR0SlabbzK

Getting really fucking tired of the whole “everyone that didn’t vote how *I* wanted is racist” shit. Especially when the party that lost got caught in blackface. https://t.co/VPcrtUSI6Y

I think the real takeaway is that the Left is pathologically obsessed with a 'white supremacy' boogieman that they keep on life-support with their on low-expectation bigotry; while normal america just doesn't give a fuck about race. https://t.co/g43nZA9MLK

Way to celebrate the first-ever black woman voted to statewide office — in a state where the current governor admitted to wearing blackface. She’s just white Republican voters’ “black friend.”
