MSNBC's Mehdi Hasan attributes Winsome Sears' victory to being white Republican voters' 'black friend'

Every progressive pundit on cable news (which means every single one on CNN and MSNBC) is trying to explain that Glenn Youngkin’s victory over Terry McAuliffe in Virginia was the result of racism: there was the racist dog-whistle of critical race theory, which isn’t real, and Youngkin’s endorsement by Donald Trump. It was those white suburban parents in all their whiteness who handed a defeat to McAuliffe.

Republicans have been pointing out that they elected a black woman to serve as their lieutenant governor, but MSNBC’s Mehdia Hassan attributes that to that mainstay of socially acceptable white supremacy: “I’m not racist, I have black friends.” So stop bringing up Winsome Sears as if her victory means anything. (As we pointed out earlier, USA Today left her out of their coverage of POC who won seats.)

The thing about critical race theory is that the problem is “whiteness,” not necessarily white people. It’s just that white people benefit most from a culture built upon whiteness, and sometimes a person of color like Sears or Ben Carson gets a boost.

Look, he even posted a Wikipedia link as further proof.

He also sought and obtained a campaign appearance by a man who said “you ain’t black” if you don’t vote for him.

Way to celebrate the first-ever black woman voted to statewide office — in a state where the current governor admitted to wearing blackface. She’s just white Republican voters’ “black friend.”
