From the tweet NPR sent out to promote the story, it looks like there’s something important they don’t know.

You're advocating on the behalf of the cartels, coyotes and the parents that are exploiting their children as a legal shield. Mexico, US and Canada will all except an asylum application at a legal crossing or consulate office, and that doesn't endanger children.
