On Saturday night, the Broward Co. Sheriff’s Office released a statement to correct some of the “lies” being spread about the office’s response to police calls to shooter Nikolas Cruz’s home. For one, Sheriff Scott Israel asked the media to stop using the “39” number — the true number was 23.
BuzzFeed, however, did its own investigation over the weekend and found there had been at least 45 calls, including 22 911 calls that were never disclosed to the public.
CNN has done its own investigation as well and concurs with the 45 calls for service number.
Records obtained by CNN show Broward County Sheriff's Office received at least 45 calls for service relating to the Florida school shooter or his brother from 2008 to 2017. The sheriff's office has insisted it received no more than 23 calls https://t.co/SBeYHOIRjD pic.twitter.com/HMvyDfoQxK

Records obtained from the sheriff’s office by CNN show the law enforcement agency received at least 45 calls for service relating to Cruz or his brother from 2008 to 2017, before the attack at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland on Feb. 14. The sheriff’s office has insisted it received no more than 23 calls for service regarding Cruz or his family.
CNN has repeatedly asked the sheriff’s office to explain the discrepancy, sending emails and attempting to reach an agency representative by phone. The agency has not responded to those requests with an explanation.
That’s two reports of 45 calls from two separate news agencies.
Didn't he tell @jaketapper Sunday that it was fewer calls? #ResignSheriffIsrael https://t.co/ujBdkqh6hv

This probably should have been established before he was allowed to twice take the stage, once in a rally speech before the townhall, and blame millions of innocent families for his incompetency. https://t.co/1XWN8C0k6X

Maybe could've reported these facts BEFORE the kangaroo court town hall… Also, the good sheriff has persistently claimed his department was ONLY called 23 times. So if 23 wasn't enough, & 45 wasn't enough, then what would it actually take for a response??? https://t.co/mqe3jtNM7L

This should have been reported before he took the stage twice with his half lies. Judgement may be the Lord's but I bet a lot of parents would like to have a crack at Sheriff Israel. https://t.co/1BgDReGvmg

But you allowed people to call @DLoesch "a murderer" on national television. You have no integrity. I'd call you "The National Enquirer of Cable News", but that would be an insult to the NE. It's time to bring "standards and practices" back. @ChrisLoesch https://t.co/9PSdUG3y3E

Give credit where it is due, @CNN is actually working to uncover facts here.
Unfortunately, the damage of their town hall has been done, and the narrative in the public sphere is completely out of whack. https://t.co/Vf74IbDwNu

Now @browardsheriff can't even get their story straight. 45 services calls when they had insisted 23. Inexcusable. He's a political creature who failed to in every capacity, at every turn. Do the right thing: #ResignSheriffIsrael https://t.co/4sELUKko7f
