Gun dealers did big business this Black Friday; Hollywood's latest gun control movie? Not so much

As Twitchy reported, several major news outlets were predicting a slow Black Friday at gun dealers. Secure in the knowledge that Donald Trump had won the election, people wouldn’t feel compelled to rush out and purchase firearms before President Clinton took office and implemented her gun control agenda — at least, that was the theory.

In reality, gun dealers did record business on Black Friday, capping off a huge year for gun sales. In the holiday rush to score deals on firearms, though, it looks like America forgot to rush out and see “Miss Sloane,” which opened on three screens on Black Friday before nationwide release this weekend.

“Miss Sloane,” starring Jessica Chastain, was billed as the story of a successful D.C. lobbyist who finds herself taking on “the most powerful opponent of her career.” Spoiler warning: As Twitchy sister site Bearing Arms reports, after turning down a pro-gun group, Sloane ends up working for a small boutique firm peddling gun control.

What could make a ruthless, high-powered lobbyist change her mind like that? Chastain’s character explains that her stance on guns changed “somewhere between Columbine and Charleston,” when she learned that “any headcase, felon, or terrorist can buy an assault rifle from a gun show, the Internet, or his buddy at the Bowl-O-Rama without so much as an ID.” Yes, it’s a fictional story, although the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence consulted on the production of the film.

Who is with her? You mean, like, in the theater? Practically no one. The Washington Free Beacon reports “Miss Sloane” posted “one of the worst performances of the past 35 years for a movie in wide release.”
