Two years later, Boko Haram does not live by promise of hashtag, trains girls as suicide bombers

Since Twitchy has already given an update today on the progress of Marie Harf’s #JobsForISIS initiative, we might as well check in on her former State Department colleague, Jen Psaki, whose #UnitedForUkraine sign and thumbs-up photo failed to convince Vladimir Putin to “live by the promise of hashtag” and respect President Obama’s red line.

That was two years ago this month, right around the time when the Islamic terrorist group Boko Haram kidnapped 200 young Nigerian girls. The first anniversary of another State Department attempt at hashtag diplomacy, #BringBackOurGirls, passed without results, and the New York Times is reporting today that many of the stolen girls have since been sold and trained as suicide bombers.

President Obama might ridicule Republicans as being scared of “widows and 3-year-old orphans,” but some African nations are feeling uneasy around young girls these days and don’t mind admitting it.

The second anniversary of the #BringBackOurGirls Twitter initiative hasn’t escaped the notice of the Washington Examiner either.

Curt Mills reports today that the United States is leading from way behind in the rescue effort:

State Department spokesman Mark Toner was asked Wednesday whether efforts were being made to step up efforts to find the girls, but said only that most of the effort was being left to Nigeria itself.

“Ramp up efforts in this particular regard?” Toner said. “I mean, look, we — we’re working closely. I mean, this is obviously a Nigerian government-led effort.”

Obviously. It’s not as if first lady Michelle Obama’s photo isn’t still doing its part in the rescue effort.

And while Bernie Sanders and Hillary Clinton argue over which one is less unqualified to run the country, some wonder what the former secretary of state did to further the effort.
