Hundreds of families marched in the streets today in support of President Obama’s two deferred action programs, the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program and the Deferred Action for Parental Accountability (DAPA) program.
Citing overreach by the president, U.S. District Judge Andrew Hanen of the Southern District of Texas’ Brownsville Division ruled in February to temporarily block the programs. The U.S. Department of Justice filed an appeal to the Fifth Circuit Court, which held a hearing this morning in New Orleans.
2 overflow courtrooms used today, over 300 listening to arguments according to U.S. marshals. And more outside.

Most powerful moments of the hearing came as chants from supporters of #ImmigrationAction outside penetrated the thick court walls.

ABC News reports that Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton blasted the president in a statement after the hearing for “granting federal and state benefits to law-breaking immigrants” via his “unconstitutional amnesty plan.”
Today was a hearing only, and judges gave no indication when a ruling would be issued.
