Bold claim: President Obama says he's not Dick Cheney

Let’s be honest. We had never, ever, not for a second mistaken President Obama for former Vice President Dick Cheney. But now that Obama has reportedly claimed in an interview with Charlie Rose that he’s not Dick Cheney, we’re beginning to have our suspicions. Maybe the Huffington Post wasn’t that far off with its mock-up of George W. Obama.

What’s the occasion? In a taped interview set to air tonight, the president was anxious to clarify some of the misunderstandings surrounding the administration’s surveillance efforts. With all of the misinformation floating around about the government spying on U.S. citizens, the president is anxious to confirm that while he’s pro-surveillance, he’s not, you know, evil, like Cheney.

Fear not: citizens say there was never any danger of mixing up the two leaders.

Another key difference: while Cheney has said without equivocation that NSA leaker Edward Snowden is a traitor and possibly a spy for China, Obama had no comment, saying only that he’d referred the case to the Justice Department. “I will leave it up to them to answer those questions,” Obama told Rose.
