So soon after that “Embrace” sculpture went up in Boston depicting two hands holding up a giant penis, a courthouse in New York City is showing off its brand-new roof-topper. We called it a demon in the headline because it has two giant ram horns on each side of its head, although they’ve gone for tentacle porn for the arms. There’s a reason for it after all:
A new statue atop a New York City courthouse. The artist says it’s part of an “urgent and necessary cultural reckoning underway as New York reconsiders traditional representations of power in public spaces and recasts civic structures to better reflect 21st-century social mores.” pic.twitter.com/4IFRj7hCsf

It was pretty “urgent and necessary” to prop that thing up there.
The statue, named "NOW", is a female figure emerging from a pink lotus. It has braids shaped as horns with a judicial lace apron. It is meant to pay homage to Ruth Bader Ginsberg and her fight for abortion.

Ah … it’s meant to pay homage to Ruth Bader Ginsberg’s fight for abortion. They could have just stuck a statue of Moloch up there.

Further context may be found in the glowing New York Times write-up of the “female lawgiver” statue, it’s Pakistani-American creator, and her ambitions for more in other cities around America. https://t.co/cEgoAxGo9W

No.
What a visual desecration of the landscape.

I wasn't a fan of Ruth Bader Ginsberg, but even she deserves better than that ugly, satanic-looking eyesore.
— John Hawkins (@johnhawkinsrwn) January 25, 2023
why did they make it look so bad?
— Joe Colangelo (@Itsjoeco) January 25, 2023
the ugliness is the point
— Logan Hall (@loganclarkhall) January 25, 2023
One of the ugliest things I've ever seen. I wouldn't brag about being associated with it.

We are descending into ancient Sumerian deity territory; we don't know we are summoning demons. https://t.co/BQEdYxH0sL

Why does she have tentacles? 😭
— ✺ sofia ✺ (@esofiaoaks) January 25, 2023
It looks demonic. Horned, unclothed, neither human nor animal; no arms to praise, instruct, protect, hold or nurture, and emerging not from humanity or from the Divine but from mindless nature.
The worship of death produces ugliness and the worship of ugliness produces death.

SIMPLY PAGANISM. BOW DOWN.
— Dr. Andrew Jackson (@DrAndrewJackson) January 25, 2023
“Urgent” and “necessary” doing some real heavy lifting here.
— George W. Smith, from City Council (@Blckdmndskr) January 25, 2023
It's got clusters of tentacles for arms. It's not a woman; it's a demon.

New York City is a Lovecraftian nightmare

Evil. Right out in the open.
— Tim (@submarinr1) January 25, 2023
“21st-century social mores” equals ugly with pagan overtones.
Accurate.

We know that the sculptor has to submit sketches of what the final product is supposed to look like — who looked at those and gave this the OK? And why does a courthouse have a statue honoring RBG’s “fight for abortion”?
