There are so many good tweets to pull from the archives following Glenn Youngkin’s victory in Virginia, but this is one of the best:
The @BillKristol endorsement will be big. Trust me. https://t.co/nrf0cV8oli
— Jennifer 'pro-voting' Rubin (@JRubinBlogger) September 17, 2021
You’ll notice in that tweet that Terry McAuliffe was playing up Youngkin’s endorsement by Donald Trump. NeverTrump conservatives like Bill Kristol were pulling for McAuliffe in fear of a “Trump-lite” governor of Virginia:
I’m asked, Why are you as a Republican not for Youngkin?
I worked for and supported many Republicans. I’m mostly proud to have done so. But if being a good Republican today means supporting Trump or acquiescing in and enabling Trumpist authoritarianism, I say: No. Country first.
— Bill Kristol (@BillKristol) October 31, 2021
So Kristol endorsed McAuliffe because electing Youngkin would be “enabling Trumpist authoritarianism.” But now, Kristol is encouraging his “GOP-adjacent” friends to recruit and fund Youngkin-like alternatives for Senate and help them win.
I’m doubtful the GOP can be liberated from Trump and Trumpism. But perhaps I’m wrong. (I hope so!)
So to my GOP-loyal or GOP-adjacent friends: Recruit and fund Youngkin-like alternatives for the 2022 Senate primaries in GA, PA, MO, OH…and help them win. https://t.co/tQh8JfkBgN

Then why did you oppose Youngkin?
— jimtreacher.substack.com (@jtLOL) November 5, 2021
Kristol has a particularly severe case of TDS. It appears to have completely broken him, rendering him incapable of any objectivity.

This you? https://t.co/y27AWuF21M
— Dave S. (@dps5400) November 5, 2021
The longtime Trump critic calls Youngkin too “Trumpy.”
You have no GOP loyal or even GOP adjacent friends. Any who supported your love fest with the Dems are just as much frauds as you.
You're a bigger fool than I thought if you think we don't see your opportunistic turn to the right for what it is, grifter. STFU and go away.
— Cat-Whistling Purrl (@AmericanPurrl) November 5, 2021
From the dude who opposed Youngkin! No credibility…
— Rob G (@NYYFan63) November 6, 2021
You're a hack. You stumped for McAuliffe. Stay far away from the GOP
— Patrick McRae (@patricksb4) November 5, 2021
Confused, if Youngkin is acceptable then why did you endorse McAulliffe?
— Tor Cotlands (@TorCotlands) November 5, 2021
You're not welcome here anymore, bro. Cozy up to your @ProjectLincoln bros. The inn is full.
— Michael Goldsberry (@GoldsberryMike) November 5, 2021
You endorsed his competitor… WTF

Sit this one out, Bill. You endorsed Youngkin's opponent. Repubs don't want you back.

Wednesday: America is doomed because Youngkin won!
Friday: To save America, we need more Youngkins!— Orb (@InfiniteOrb) November 6, 2021

This is beyond sad, Bill has zero shame

“I mean is Youngkin so bad? He’s not Trump” Bill Kristol, November 2021
— SCAM (@SCAM518) November 6, 2021
Careful- you’re starting to give hacks a bad name
— mullen (@pmullen87) November 5, 2021
I used to have the deepest respect for you.
— bakes (@bakes) November 5, 2021
You used to have a good reputation. What the heck happened to you?

What did it feel like when your soul left your body?
— .💀.Badaisè (@_A_Badaise) November 6, 2021
This…is strange. Bill seems to be having trouble picking a lane. Understandable since all lanes aren't equally lucrative.
— hughhark (@hughhark1) November 5, 2021
Someone sees the tide turning and wants to get back on the right side.
— Kendall Cameron (@kn_cameron) November 5, 2021
October: I’m endorsing McAuliffe because Youngkin is too close to Trump. November: Recruit and fund Youngkin-like candidates.
