Our jobs are easy — we can’t imagine pulling someone over and walking up to the driver’s side window, several times a night. You have no idea what you’re going to encounter. After the fatal shooting of Daunte Wright, though, Brooklyn Center, Minnesota Mayor Mike Elliot announced that he doesn’t believe police officers necessarily need a weapon every time they make a traffic stop.

I agree w/ the mayor. If the officer knows they're in danger then take their weapon. If they know they're safe then leave it in their vehicle.
