Rep. Eric Swalwell suggests President Trump leaked the Chinese spy story in retaliation for criticizing him

As Twitchy reported earlier, Axios had a hot exclusive: a suspected Chinese intelligence operative had bundled donations for Eric Swalwell’s 2014 re-election campaign. Swalwell had said earlier that he wouldn’t be commenting on the story as he didn’t want to disclose any possibly classified information.

Yeah, that’s why.

Now Politico is reporting that Swalwell is blaming President Trump; apparently, it’s payback for his criticism of the president.

John Bresnahan reports:

Following a report that linked him to an alleged Chinese spy, Democratic Rep. Eric Swalwell suggested the information was leaked to hurt him because of his frequent and loud criticism of President Donald Trump.

“I’ve been a critic of the president. I’ve spoken out against him. I was on both committees that worked to impeach him,” Swalwell said in an interview on Tuesday. “The timing feels like that should be looked at.”

What should be looked at is Swalwell’s seat on the Intelligence Committee.

He took care of that with his presidential campaign.
