Jose Ines Garcia Zarate, the man found not guilty of murdering Kate Steinle, had been in a San Francisco jail before her killing but was released despite a federal request that he be held for his sixth deportation.
That’s right — his sixth deportation.
But now that he’s been found guilty of possessing a firearm illegally, Zarate might be sent back to Mexico after all.

This really worked well the first 5 times he was deported before senselessly murdering an innocent and bright 32-year-old.
This is not justice for #KateSteinle

Hmm, will ICE get a notification of his scheduled release, or will sheriff escort him out the front door after telling ICE to wait at the back door? https://t.co/JpjFuVoVAC

Sad that the punishment for his crime, deportation, is considered worse than our 3 hots and a cot. https://t.co/GyMKcHDX5S

If I have ever seen a reason to aggressively end #sanctuarycity it is because of #KateSteinle. How a officials can choose to ignore the law, even to the detriment of its own citizens, is beyond me. In the end, the innocent suffer. #NoJusticeForKateSteinle #nojusticeforkate https://t.co/pIiRvkKVR8

Getting conflicting signals from DOJ and DHS tonight about the failed prosecution of the man who killed Kate Steinle. DOJ says it may pursue federal charges. DHS says it will deport him.
