Young women are seeking sterilization in the wake of SCOTUS Roe v Wade decision

According to the New York Post, young women are trying to get sterilized as a means of permanent birth control in the post-Roe era.

From the New York Post:

Young women who declare they don’t want children have always faced pushback, but the US Supreme Court’s recent decision to overturn the landmark abortion decision Roe v. Wade, has forced Americans — and particularly women of childbearing age — to seriously consider how to manage their bodies as their reproductive rights and choices diminish.

Just one week after Roe was overturned, Google searches for female sterilization shot up, Newsweek reported.

On the one hand, this seems like a rather extreme choice to make. Voluntarily ending your ability to have any children at all does sound like something that people may come to regret.

On the other hand, this might just be a win-win situation for both sides of the abortion debate. If these women (or is it “people with a capacity for pregnancy”? Kind of hard to keep up these days. You know what, we don’t care.) are sure that they never want children then maybe they’re doing everyone a favor by permanently ending their ability to conceive.

Like we said.

Neither are we. If you’re that committed to not having children, it’s probably best if you don’t, you know, have children, and arrange that in a way that doesn’t require the taking of innocent life.

There are also the unintended consequences of guaranteeing you won’t have anyone to pass your values (such as they are) on to, and under these circumstances that seems okay to us:

Yep, that’ll show ’em, indeed!
