‘Journalists’ and their fellow Democrats are fighting President Donald Trump as he attempts to bring order to crime-ridden Washington, D.C. Of course, they are touting how safe the district is, despite it not being true. On Monday, The Washington Post published a story with a lead-in where a resident claims in the same breath that the city is safe while asking that their identity be kept a secret because they fear for their personal safety. Wut?

Yes, it’s just like that chaotic ‘All is well’ scene at the end of ‘Animal House.’
Commenters can’t get past the whole it’s-safe-except-for-all-of-the-dangerous-crime take.
‘Safe’ but goes on to describe multiple crimes witnessed. You’d think a safe city would require …safety. It’s strange that people will lie about their own security to speak against this administration & what they’re trying to do—eliminate crime and create a functioning, healthy place to live & visit.

Also, there’s the matter of cooking the books when it comes to crime stats and the supposed “drop” in crime. https://t.co/8zAH7WGNGG
— Rochelle Wentz (@rochellewentz) August 11, 2025
If things are so bad that the act of acknowledging the crime makes you scared for your own safety, and the police are faking the stats, then maybe it isn't actually that safe?

1984 has come to life
It certainly feels Orwellian for a person to hold the conflicting thoughts that they’re both safe and unsafe at the same time.
If the unnamed person from the WaPo article is to be believed, then D.C. has the safest violent gangs you could ever be gently pummeled to within an inch of your life by.
It’s really safe, except for those gangs that roam around trying to steal cars, beat people senseless, steal their coats and phones, get into gun battles where innocent people are shot. . .other than that, it’s really safe.

Super safe.

I think we can be almost 100% certain that the "youths" roaming the streets do not read WaPo so I'm curious who exactly he's afraid of. Other libs? Leftists?

Leftists who want unsafe cities. There are plenty of them.

If the city is safe, why withhold their identity for ‘personal safety reasons’ for speaking out? That’s the opposite of a safe city. It’s very confusing.
Some posters say the unnamed resident is reacting to peer group pressure.
they are AFRAID that if they say they feel unsafe they will be cast out of all of their social groups and perhaps even fired from their job. Saying you feel unsafe is taboo

How can WaPo allow DC liberals to speak “on the condition of anonymity over concerns of personal safety” yet denounce ICE officers for wearing gators to protect their own safety when on raids? Both are fearful of being doxxed
— Titania (@Titania977) August 11, 2025
I think the request for anonymity here isn’t fear of people in the city, but other liberals yelling at them for saying the city has issues…you see this dynamic on Reddit, where any desire to make a place safer is met with outrage
— CostumesofHannibal (@CitoyenneClark) August 11, 2025
Sounds like it’s so safe I don’t want to go there 😎

We agree. Until Trump cleans up D.C., it’s best to avoid the widespread ‘safety’ of the city and return only when true safety has been achieved.
