A potential replacement could be Neera Tanden, a senior White House adviser, according to people familiar with the matter.
Neera. Tanden. Last time her name was being bandied around was when she was being considered for OMB Director (remember that hilarity?). She somehow managed to land a job as a staff secretary for President Joe Biden (actually, it looks like the last time I even wrote about her was when I wrote about that like a year and a half ago) despite being completely incompetent. But while she never had a snowball’s chance in hell of actually becoming OMB Director, she was at least smart enough to withdraw her name from consideration before getting completely humiliated. If she’s actually being considered for Susan Rice’s old job, she should do the same thing. Except she should do it right now instead of waiting until she gets raked over the coals again.
Until that happens, though, we’re just going to enjoy this moment for as long as we can.
