Firefighter John Harwood assures Jonathan Chait that people are 'just pretending to be angry' about Joe Biden's 'poor kids' gaffe

Joe Biden’s still in hot water today after footage was released of him telling Iowans that “poor kids are just as bright and just as talented as white kids.” Despite the fact that his campaign’s trying to shift the blame onto Donald Trump, Uncle Joe’s gonna have a tough time talking his way out of this one.

But that doesn’t mean he won’t have a little help. Take Jonathan Chait, for example. He’s doing what he can to downplay the backlash against Biden by suggesting that most of Biden’s critics today are “just pretending to be angry”:

For what it’s worth, CNBC firefighter John Harwood says it’s all just for show:

Huh.

Are Chait and Harwood just pretending that if Donald Trump had said what Joe Biden said, they wouldn’t be foaming at the mouth?

If Chait and Harwood want to stay out of the emotional partisan fray, that’s fine. But they can’t do so selectively. Either they’re all in or all out. They can’t cherry-pick depending on the letter after the politician’s name.
