Democratic socialist Congresswoman-elect Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is a seemingly limitless source of unintentional comedic fodder. And we’re wrong for pointing and laughing at her. At least according to Nate Silver:

Apparently “demonizing” = Valid criticism towards a member of Congress because she espouses massive expansions of federal outlays and doesn’t seem to possess even a basic knowledge of how our govt functions.

We’ll grant Silver that any conservatives picking on Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s wardrobe aren’t doing themselves many favors. But we’d be truly doing it wrong if we didn’t shine an even brighter spotlight on all the stupid and ridiculous things she says.

That’s also a good point. Donald Trump sticks his foot in his mouth on a regular basis. Misspells simple words, contradicts himself, demonstrates ignorance with regard to basic policy. If he’s fair game as President of the United States, surely Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez isn’t immune from mockery. They’re actually not that different from one another.
I don’t know. Making someone with little policy depth the straw man for left policy objectives seems pretty strategically sound.
