This is a significant development in the ongoing Zimmerman trial.

Martin reportedly had THC in his system at the time he died. At pretrial this past May, Judge Debra S. Nelson barred mention of Martin’s drug use from opening remarks but not necessarily from the trial proceedings.
Relevant because Trayvon Martin's toxicology report showed the presence of marijuana in his system.

So jurors will hear that Martin had illegal drugs in his system at the time he died.

Plenty of people are upset at this news, viewing it essentially as an attempted smear on Martin’s character:
They're allowing Trayvon's toxicology report. Hopefully the jury knows that smoking a joint doesn't equal a death sentence #zimmermantrial

So, the judge is allowing Trayvon's toxicology report into evidence? #traceamountsofweed #ZimmermanTrial #foolishness #JusticeForTrayvon

Very prejudice to bring in Trayvon Martin's toxicology report. He's not here to defend himself. Wow! Very prejudice. #HLNZIMMERMANTRIAL

Trayvon's toxicology report shows THC? Are the munchies & giggling like a school girl now grounds for self defence??

I can't believe what I'm am seeing … They trying to assassinate trayvon image over a toxicology report saying he smoked marjiuana !

It's unfair to present Trayvon's toxicology report, but exempt Zimmerman's past offenses. I'm annoyed & upset.
— TE-ri-kuh LUH-trees (@TerricaLatrice) July 8, 2013
Other than trying to make Trayvon look bad what is the point of using this toxicology report?! It's very prejudicial!!!

The judge in the Zimmerman trial is allowing the toxicology report from Trayvon Martin to be used in the trial #wtf

But others believe that allowing this evidence to be presented is a logical and fair decision:
Toxicology should be admissible to corroborate evidence that Trayvon acted erratically and had a substance influencing his decision making
— Lyle Mazin (@LyleMazin) July 8, 2013
@v_verite Why? Part of his full autopsy. Hide parts of available information from jury b/c fact he was on illegal drugs is inconvenient?
— Sunny McSunnyface (@sunnyright) July 8, 2013
Let's be honest: Objection to Martin's toxicology results being admitted is that presence of illegal drugs hurts "such a good boy" line.
— Sunny McSunnyface (@sunnyright) July 8, 2013
At any rate, it will be interesting to see how big a role it will play in determining the trial’s outcome.
