Randi Weingarten and university professors are teaming up.
Color me shocked. SUPER shocked even.
And they wonder why public education is doomed.
Jonathan Turley just dropped the obvious on the alliance between university professors and the American Federation of Teachers, and the whole thing lands exactly where it always does.
The partnership is painfully predictable because Weingarten has spent years turning the AFT into an education cartel of sorts. Massive contracts and bloated budgets flow in one direction. Political cash flows straight back out to the same allies who keep the gravy train running.
Students and families get whatever is left after the checks clear, which is never very much.
Weingarten does not hide the operation. She personifies it. The AFT rakes in the dues, locks in the deals, and then writes the campaign contributions that keep friendly politicians in place. Academic freedom gets invoked whenever someone questions the arrangement. Actual results in the classroom rarely make the priority list.
Professors signing on to this setup are not defending some pure ideal of scholarship. They are joining the machine that already controls K-12 and now wants the same leverage over higher education. Shared governance sounds noble until it becomes another lever for political spending and protection from accountability.

The cartel model is simple. Secure the funding. Deliver the votes and the donations. Treat any push for choice, standards, or transparency as an existential threat. Weingarten has perfected the performance: loud rallies, endless warnings about democracy in peril, and very little interest in why so many kids still struggle with basic skills after years in the system the union dominates. University faculty hitching their wagon to that record are choosing the same protection racket. They get the organizational muscle and the political cover. Everyone else gets lectures about how opposing the arrangement equals attacking education itself.
In essence, Weingarten has stopped pretending to care about the students because she knows Democrats don't care either. At this point, it has become nothing more than BUT TRUMP, and if it destroys teachers, students, and families along the way, so be it. That's how broken Weingarten is; that's how broken the Left really is.
