Throw in the Damn TOWEL! LOL! Steve Hilton WORKED Xavier Becerra in CA Gubernatorial Debate (WATCH)

In Wednesday night’s California gubernatorial debate, Republican Steve Hilton pressed Democrat Xavier Becerra on his record as Health and Human Services secretary, zeroing in on the surge of unaccompanied alien children who passed through federal custody.

A topic one would think is very important to Californians, right?

Hilton argued that rushed placements and weakened sponsor checks left large numbers of those kids unaccounted for and exposed to trafficking and exploitative labor — allegations drawn from a Pulitzer Prize-winning New York Times investigation and later federal audits — while Becerra tried to wave the exchange off as recycled partisan attacks.

The exchange quickly became one of the night’s sharpest moments (there were MANY) as the former cabinet official faced the figures and the source of the reporting head-on.

This was a total SMACKDOWN.

HILTON: “When you were HHS Secretary, you were responsible for 479,000 unaccompanied migrant children and for their welfare in camps that you ran.”
“You sent them because you dismantled the vetting that should have made sure that they were with a safe, protective family or sponsor.”
“You sent thousands of young children directly into the clutches of child sex and labor traffickers, hundreds of thousands of children that you were responsible for are still missing today, 100,000 of them are under ten years old.”
When Becerra attempted to play off the narrative as just another “Trump talking point,” Hilton landed his final haymaker:
HILTON: “It was the New York Times — and they won a Pulitzer Prize for it!
”There’s just no coming back from that. Becerra knew it was over.
