I love a coincidence that isn’t really a coincidence. Of all the days for Homeland Security to put Ilhan Omar’s immigration file back on the front burner, it dropped on September 11.
DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin didn’t hedge. He said the department knows Omar married her brother to get him into the country, that the ex is in London now, and that if they can prove she lied on her paperwork, there is no statute of limitations. Citizenship obtained by fraud is not a lifetime hall pass. He called it an ongoing investigation and said if they move, it won’t be a political stunt. It will be a case.

I’ve watched this rumor bounce around since she first ran for office. Omar has called it absurd for a decade.
Fine.
Then why does the Secretary of Homeland Security sound this sure on a convention stage? Why is the same story still sitting in ICE and DHS files after all these years?
Marriage fraud is a felony. If the marriage was a ticket-stamp for a sibling, that’s not a messy personal history. That’s a crime.
Omar has spent her career lecturing America about its sins while the questions around her own entry never went away. Now the guy running DHS is saying the questions are live again, and deportation is on the table if the proof holds.
I’m not pretending a TV hit is a conviction. I’m saying I noticed the date. I noticed who said it. And I noticed that for once, somebody in charge of the border is talking about a member of Congress the same way they talk about everybody else: if you weren’t supposed to be here, you don’t get to stay.
That’s not revenge. That’s the rule.
Dropping it on 9/11 just made the contrast impossible to miss.
