House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries finally came clean about Medicare for All. After cosponsoring the single-payer fantasy from 2013 through 2021, the guy angling for Speaker if Democrats claw back the House now says it’s not legislation he supports.
Classic Dem pivot.
When chasing the progressive base and signaling virtue to the DSA crowd was the play, Jeffries was all in. The moment he took the leadership gavel, the cosponsorship vanished. Suddenly it’s vague “let’s fix the broken system” talk instead of the full government takeover.
On Meet the Press he made it plain: no current support, no cosponsoring the latest versions, and zero backing for the DSA agenda.

I’ve watched this movie before. The left sells free everything run by the same people who can’t manage the post office, promising quality stays high while costs magically drop. Reality delivers wait times, rationing, doctors heading for the exits, and taxpayers stuck with the tab. Even Jeffries knows that pitch dies outside the activist bubble and a handful of deep-blue districts.
With midterms coming, the ones still interested in winning seats are putting daylight between themselves and the Squad’s wishlist.
Socialists are already melting down. Ro Khanna and company still demand a floor vote, insisting most of the caucus remains on board. Jeffries hedges with talk of affordability while steering clear of the full single-payer plunge. Smart if power is the goal. Useless if patients are.
This is the Democrat civil war in real time: radicals yelling betrayal while leadership tries to look electable. Grab the popcorn, Twitchy fam. The hypocrisy writes itself. Voters who remember those cosponsorship years aren’t as forgetful as Jeffries hopes. Medicare for All was always a slogan, never a serious plan.
Their own leader just confirmed it.
