There’s this crazy thing about journalism — it used to be that something newsworthy would happen, and then reporters would report on it. Now website editors have the story they want written in their heads — they just need some names and actual events to back up the premise, and they won’t even use the real names in print. And so we have fishing expeditions like the one The Daily Beast has set out on.
