The Supreme Court on Monday refused to hear North Carolina’s appeal of a lower court’s decision to strike down the state’s voter ID laws and other rules on voting passed in 2013 under former Gov. Pat McCrory.

Just last April, a U.S. district judge ruled that the law, which cut the number of days people could vote early from 17 to 10, eliminated same-day registration and voting, and prohibited people from casting a ballot outside their precinct would stand.
However, a federal appeals court panel struck down the law in June, ruling that the law specified “only the kinds of IDs that white North Carolinians were more likely to possess” and targeted African-American voters “with almost surgical precision.”
#SCOTUS’ choice not to take up the effort to reinstate NC’s Voter ID law is a win for all who believe in strengthening the right to vote.
