#BoycottTarget Initiative Tops Half a Million Signatures

In less than a week, the American Family Association’s online petition to #BoycottTarget has accumulated over a half million signatures. At the time of this post, the tally stands at 524,367 shoppers who have vowed to steer clear of the second-largest discount retailer in the US.

The initiative represents the AFA’s response to Target’s recent announcement that its customers may use whichever facilities they prefer in accordance with their gender identity:

Most relevant for the conversations currently underway, we welcome transgender team members and guests to use the restroom or fitting room facility that corresponds with their gender identity.

The AFA shared their concern that sexual predators may take advantage of this policy to victimize innocent customers. Many prominent voices, most notably Ted Cruz, have made similar arguments in recent days.
