Motion Picture Academy 'heartbroken' over lack of inclusion

The #OscarsSoWhite hashtag has had quite a run since the Motion Picture Academy of Arts and Sciences announced this year’s nominations, which included no black actors or directors. Academy President Cheryl Boone Isaacs today released a statement on the situation, saying she was “heartbroken” and pledged to make “big changes.”

The Academy’s solution has been to diversity its voting membership, but that’s not happening as quickly as the Academy would like.
