Red Sox fans create #SmearCampaign as star pitcher Jon Lester signs with the Cubs

And frustrated Boston fans — thanks in part to local radio personalities Billy Lanni and James Stewart who suggested that Red Sox management would eventually “smear” Lester as cover for not re-signing the star — started their own #SmearCampaign to sarcastically explain away management’s decision.

And now #SmearCampaign is trending nationally.
