Scott Bessent Can't Help but LAUGH As CNBC Journo Tries Arguing With Him About the 1st Amendment

Scott Bessent didn't mince words Monday on CNBC's Squawk Box. With CNN, MS NOW, and Politico already claiming to sue President Trump's decision to pull their White House credentials, Bessent explained why the administration isn't losing sleep over it.

He pointed to two recent security incidents that revealed the press's priorities. After the April shooting at the White House Correspondents' Dinner, where an armed man charged toward the ballroom targeting the president, coverage quickly shifted to how frightened the journalists in the room felt.

Bessent noted the attackers weren't there for the press. They were there for the president.

The same pattern showed up after the covert aircraft switch in Ankara this summer. Facing an Iranian missile threat, the Secret Service moved Trump to a different plane and used Air Force One as a decoy. The press pool on the decoy flight later complained about how "vulnerable" they had been. Bessent's response: they were never the target.

Some reporters, he added, simply don't do the job well. They chase palace intrigue and personal angles instead of policy. Host Joe Kernen pushed back, saying this kind of restriction "isn't something we do in this country." Bessent didn't flinch. The First Amendment protects the right to report and publish. It does not guarantee a hard pass, a seat in the briefing room, or unlimited access to a secure government facility.
