Bernie Sanders Says It’s Embarrassing How Little the President Knows About the Dangers of AI

As we reported earlier this month, Sen. Bernie Sanders introduced legislation to pause the development of artificial intelligence in the United States immediately, with the hope that China and the rest of the world would follow suit and also stop the development of artificial intelligence. Today, The New York Post introduced us to Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei's handpicked group of woke progressives who would oversee the development of AI as Model Evaluation and Threat Research, or METR. METR traces its roots directly back to key figures in Effective Altruism, "a philosophy that’s become popular with Silicon Valley masters of the universe" that "advocates for using reason — and fortunes amassed by tech’s best and brightest — to do the most good for humanity over the long term."

Sanders was approached by MS NOW's Akayla Gardner, who asked him if he thought President Trump would sign any of his AI legislation were it to hit his desk. AI expert Sanders said it was embarrassing to have a president who was so ignorant about the dangers of AI.

The post continues:

… would hope that the people around him, many of whom are not ignorant, will tell him that he has got to sign that legislation. And furthermore, at a time when the American people, whether they're conservative or progressive, are standing up and demanding action. His political friends will probably say you should sign that bill.”

Dude, invest some of your millions in a comb and maybe we'll take you more seriously.

How knowledgeable is Xi Jinping about the dangers of AI, and will he pause development if the U.S. takes the lead?

He's read enough to know to be afraid of it.
