Sen. Chris Murphy looked at packed stadiums and decided the real crisis in college sports isn’t roster chaos, transfer portals, or a system coaches and leagues say is breaking. It’s racism, of course: black athletes got bargaining power, and the white guys in charge can’t stand it.

Ted Cruz’s reply was the verbal equivalent of a timeout. Nick Saban, 24 conferences, 370 universities, the NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL, the U.S. Olympic Committee, and HBCUs have lined up behind the Protect College Sports Act. Murphy has a theory. Cruz has a coalition — and a pointed question about who writes Murphy’s checks.

Chris knows sportsball much better than Nick Saban.
