CNN Reports on US Navy Destroyer That Spent Four Days Without Power Last Month

Here's how the news is made. The wife of a sailor who attempted to jump overboard from the aircraft carrier Abraham Lincoln either posted about it online or emailed her story to a reporter at The Military Times, which is not affiliated with the U.S. military. The Military Times reporter writes up the anecdote and publishes it, and suddenly there's a media frenzy suggesting that hordes of sailors are trying to commit suicide by jumping overboard because their deployment was scheduled to end in May. CNN's Kaitlan Collins picks up the story and interviews the wife over Zoom. People post photos of the meager meals on the aircraft carrier, which even Snopes steps in to debunk: aircraft carriers don't have cinderblock walls. A TikTok video of grimy showers, stained floors, and filthy toilets alleged aboard the Abraham Lincoln goes viral, except more discerning viewers note that the sailor is wearing a construction helmet, meaning this ship is not currently deployed.

Acting Secretary of the Navy Hung Cao posted a lengthy statement to X saying that "unfortunately, the media are trying to paint our warriors as victims. Not only is that dishonest, but it takes away the focus on the enemy and the threat it poses against our nation, people, and way of life."

CNN is now on top of the poor conditions in the Navy that are leading to "multiple" sailors trying to jump overboard. CNN reports on Monday that, last month, a U.S. Navy destroyer in the South China Sea spent four days without power.

"The incident was due to an engineering failure aboard the warship, the US 7th Fleet said in a statement to CNN, another setback as concerns mount over the heavy strain on the US Navy due to the Iran war and global commitments," reports Brad Lendon.

They're doing their part to keep this new narrative alive. Suddenly, they care about the heavy strain of being a sailor.

Again, CNN was handed a narrative by The Military Times and has decided to keep it alive as long as possible. President Trump and Secretary of War Pete Hegseth have let the Navy deteriorate to the point where sailors are jumping overboard. Anything to reduce morale both among the troops and the American public.
