WNBA Players’ Union Says They Will Not Be Used As Political Pawns, Call to Strengthen Title IX

As our own Warren Squire recently reported, the WNBA commissioner sent out a memo to teams regarding former NBA stars signing up for the WNBA draft. She waffled and said the issue was "a complex and nuanced topic." Now the WNBPA, the union for WNBA players, has weighed in with its own statement, saying that it will not let its members be used as "political pawns." "Hate, abuse, and demonization of any person or group of people, including transgender people, only fuel fear, division, and harm. We will continue to have hard conversations. But we will not be used as political pawns," the union writes.

The union then concludes by directing fans: "Online, report abusive posts and drown out the bots and bad actors. At home, tell your elected officials to strengthen Title IX." Strengthen Title IX? Sounds transphobic.
