MSNBC's Nicolle Wallace wonders if Barack Obama should form a team to man a 'democracy hotline'

MSNBC’s Nicolle Wallace actually makes a good point here at the start and doesn’t even realize it. She suggests we might be moving to an “Election Week” because we might not know the night of Election Day who won. This editor was working the night of the 2016 election (and the 2012 and 2020 elections) and remembers staying up until 3 a.m. to write the headline that Donald Trump won the election.

And it shouldn’t be like that. America should be able to count ballots and have the tallies the same night … better yet to have it wrapped up by 11 p.m. And yet we’ve run into a problem where sometimes the numbers just aren’t ready. Allegheny County in Pennsylvania took weeks to post the vote totals in the primary between David McCormick and Dr. Mehmet Oz.

Wallace says that that’s the whole point, though; the Republicans aren’t running to win, they’re running so they can contest the results. So what do you do? Have Barack Obama lead a “democracy commission” and get Chris Christie to man a democracy hotline?

What unelected board is going to be in charge of putting together this “democracy commission” that will be led by a former Democratic president who illegally spied on his successor’s campaign?

What we need is a red wave so huge that there’s no room to contest it.
